Permalink Music Is Life/Deydreamin
I’ve been talking to my cousin Nana B a lot lately about music and art. We’ve got a shared passion for the arts, and have spent countless hours together listening to music, watching one art documentary or the other, & discussing his music career with his label Deydreamin. He’s an immensely talented artiste and you can check out his music here.
I made this after one of our many convos.

Permalink The Intersection of Liberal Arts & Technology
“The reason that Apple’s able to create products like the iPad is because we always try to be at the intersection of technology and liberal arts; to be able to get the best of both. To make extremely advanced products from the technology point of view but also have them be intuitive, easy to use, fun to use, so they really fit the users. So the users don’t have to come to them, they come to the user. And it’s the combination of these two things that I think has let us make these kind of creative products like the iPad.”
– Steve Jobs
The intersection of liberal arts & technology is where it’s at.

Permalink Radiant ChildThe little I read about Jean-Michel fascinated me so much that I felt OBLIGED to watch Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child after I heard of it (on Gyimah’s blog). It absolutely blew my mind & I’ve watched it over 5 times since. Everyone should watch it 5 times+…I won’t even attempt to write a piece about his life because there’s TOO much to talk about. Read about him, listen to him & get lost in his spectacular works; only then will you appreciate the enigma that is Jean-Michel Basquiat.Roll

Permalink We Can Only Hope
My talk with Esi Quagrainie yesterday about Ghana’s brain drain issue inspired this. The convo had me thinking for a while so I decided to put some ideas on Paper…‘We can only hope,’ is what she said to conclude the discussion… We can only hope that Ghanaians will act now to inspire the positive change we seek. We can only hope for people to realize that it’s up to them to make a difference & not someone else. We can only hope that they will strive to help others because we’re all in this together…“Arise Ghana Youth for your Country,The nation demands your devotion,Let us all unite to uphold Her,& make Her great & strong,We are all involved,We are all involved,We are all involved,In building our Motherland!”
So break free of the shackles holding you back & join the cause to uplift the Black Star; the Black Star of peace, the Black Star of hope, the Black Star of freedom, the Black Star of innovation… Ghana is our responsibility & we need ALL hands on deck to steer the nation in the right direction!
Additional Fact: It’s Esi’s birthday today so show her some love.

Permalink House of StoleMy extremely busy week got even busier when I began redesigning House of Stole’s website. Paper came in handy when I had to draw a template stole for our ‘Shop’ page, which customers would look at to create their desired graduation stoles. For some odd reason, don’t ask me why, I started to picture the stole I had drawn as a Pharaoh’s neme (their striped headdress) & so I decided to draw in a face between the draping stole… Roll
Additional fact: Never in the history of the industry has a company made stoles so amazingly exquisite that they transform you into royalty- YOU know where to go when your commencement draws closer ;)

Permalink A Bird In Hand Is Not Always Worth Two In The Bush.
Why?Pretty simple actually. But first let’s explore the meaning of this ‘proverb’…
What this proverb says is that it is better to have a lesser but certain advantage than to seek a  possibly greater one that may come to nothing. In other words, you’re better off sticking with something you already have as opposed to pursuing something you may never get. I say this is not always the case…I actually think there are several reasons why a bird in hand is not worth two in the bush. Some can be proven easily through mathematics or game theory logic. But we won’t need to go that far. Just consider the fact that the proverb largely ignores Oliver Holme’s idea that ‘a mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions’; the idea that we learn from new experiences, such as going after the birds in the bush…Let’s then consider the potential for edification when you take that risk: Even if your attempt to catch the birds in the bush is unsuccessful, & you lose your bird in hand as well, what you learn from that risk-taking experience may lead to much better things & possibly happier times. This potential for edification & the benefits it possesses, which the proverb ignores, is what I’d like to draw your attention to. You may learn something from the experience that would put you in a better position than having the bird in hand does, whether or not you catch the birds in the bush. For example, the knowledge you gain from the experience of going after the two birds may now make it easier for you to catch even more birds in the future. Heck, you might actually catch the birds AND learn too! So effectively, you would have killed two birds with one stone ;)In effect, risking your bird in hand & going for the two birds in the bush may be better for you in the long run, even if you fail to catch either of the two birds & you lose your bird in hand too. Win-win situation, non? Err, not quite…Obviously, it is possible that you may not gain enough (if anything at all) from the experience to put you in a better position than if you simply stuck with your bird in hand. It is only then that the saying holds; it is ONLY THEN that a bird in hand is really worth two in the bush. Therefore, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush IF & ONLY IF you fail to catch the birds in the bush AND you don’t learn enough from the experience to put you in a better position than the bird in hand puts you in future. Not your regular kinda saying is it?Then again, I may be wrong. I may have totally misunderstood the message behind the proverb. However, based on my interpretation, it seems a little too shortsighted & subtly negative. By ignoring the long term benefits that going after the two birds may bring, it lays too much emphasis on NOW, & quietly sends out an ‘anti-explore’, ‘anti-challenge-the-status-quo’, ‘anti-innovate’ message. & I don’t like that.A bird in hand is good, but the bird in the bush might sing like Beyoncé!Winners take calculated risks!RollAdditional fact: I also don’t like how greed is associated with going for the birds in the bush, though that’s why the saying may exist in the first place.
